When we suffer a trauma we can become fragmented. Sometime parts of our soul stays behind in an effort to protect us from remembering the details of our horrific experiences. Unlike animals we hold onto negative experiences for a long time if not indefinitely. The goal of the shaman is to travel into the spirit world for the client and bring back medicine to help him regain power and clarity. This is very foreign to our western culture.

There are various reasons someone would want a shamanic healing session. If a person has suffered a trauma such as witnessing a murder, entering into a battle of war, being victimized, raped, beaten, attacked physically or emotionally and can't seem to shake it off despite traditional treatment a shamanic healing session can provide significant "medicine" for the victim. 

The heart of shamanism lies in the shamanic dream. The shaman enters into the dream-time by going into a self-induced trance into one of three dream worlds depending on what he or she is seeking. In this dream world the shaman meets various spirit helpers which guide him and help him to find and bring back dream medicine for himself or his client. These spirit helpers can be of plant, animal or rock origin but he must already have established a relationship with them prior to the dream. Although the use of dream traveling isn't understood in our culture it has been extensively tested over thousands of years as well as many continents and cultures passed down as an oral tradition yet incredulously spanning the globe. How can this possible without an ability to mass communicate as most of these cultures are illiterate? The answer lies in the ability of energy to travel in the form of thoughts. As in the form of energy transfer as telepathy more than one person can receive an idea of creativity at the same time.

Shamanism is more widely used and tested than our modern day psycho-therapeutic techniques such as hypnosis and psycho-analysis. The reason is because shamanic healing works. It has helped many people heal their lives when all other healing techniques have failed. The power of the mind has been documented throughout the ages through such organizations as the Science of the Mind organizations and Ernest Holmes.  The shaman's dream world or non-ordinary reality is considered just as real as ordinary reality or waking time. How medicine from a dream state can affect and help heal a person's ordinary reality is being researched by the Foundation for Shamanic Studies led by Dr. Michael Harner, a leading pioneer in shamanism in the west. Somehow the time and space continuum is bridged in the dream world through the loving assistance of spirit guides. Perhaps in the near future our scientists will unravel this mystery (of course then it will be labeled "science").

Plant Spirit Medicine     

The use of plants in healing has been in practice for many thousands of years. Plants are used primarily in our drugs and medicines sold through traditional allopathic doctoring as well as natural herbal preparations. Plants are not only effective healing our bodies and minds but spirits as well. Plant spirit medicine is a part of shamanic healing which is thousands of years old. Plants have a consciousness and really want to help humans regain their power and connection to all of life. Plant spirits come to heal people by being lovingly invited in ordinary reality and then embraced in non-ordinary reality or the shamanic dream world.
